Installation Steps

Record the Device ID

  • Note the 16-digit Device ID from the sticker on the rear of the device.

The ID will begin with 70B

Standard Installation (Pulse Output – Wired)

Use this method where the meter provides a hard-wired pulse output.

Identify the Pulse Output Terminals

Locate the pulse output terminals on the meter. Refer to the meter manufacturer’s documentation if required.

Connect the Pulse Inputs

Connect the device input wires to the meter pulse output terminals in accordance with the wiring information provided.

  • Input 1 → Red & Black
  • Input 2 → Yellow & Blue (If required)

Ensure connections are secure.

Route and Secure the Cable

Route the cable to avoid strain, sharp edges, or heat sources. Secure using cable ties where appropriate.

Power and Activate the Device

Power the device and confirm successful activation (LED behaviour as described elsewhere in this guide).

Installation Using an Optical Reader

Use this method where the meter provides a visible pulse LED rather than a wired output.

Locate the Pulse LED

Identify the usage LED on the meter (typically a red flashing LED).

Clean the Meter Surface

Ensure the surface around the LED is clean and dry.

Attach the Optical Reader

Position the optical reader directly over the pulse LED and secure it using the supplied adhesive or fixing method.

Caution: Ensure the reader is correctly aligned with the LED to avoid missed pulses.

Route and Secure the Cable

Route the cable safely back to the monitoring device and secure as required.

Activate and Verify

Activate the device and verify that pulses are being detected in the platform.

Gas Meter Installations (Mandatory Barrier)

When installing on a gas meter, a barrier device (for example, a chatterbox) must always be used.

Install the Barrier DeviceFit the barrier between the gas meter pulse output and the monitoring device in accordance with the barrier manufacturer’s instructions.

Connect Pulse Wiring via the Barrier

Connect the meter pulse output to the input side of the barrier, and the monitoring device to the output side of the barrier.

Verify Isolation

Confirm that the barrier provides electrical isolation between the gas meter and the monitoring device.

Dual Input Configuration (If Applicable)

Where two pulse inputs are used:

  • Ensure each input is connected to the correct meter or channel
  • Record which input corresponds to which meter or register
  • Configure the inputs correctly in the platform during setup

Sensor Activation

Remove the Rear Cover

  • Using a suitable screwdriver, remove the four screws from the rear of the sensor.

Caution: Sensor cables pass through the opening in the top cover. When separating the case ensure cable is not pulled.

Activate the Battery

  • Press the reset as indicated below.
  • You should see a single green LED flash.
  • Wait for 10-15 seconds, you should see a double green led flash. This indicates that the sensor has connected with the gateway.

Confirm Device Start-Up

  • 1 green flash - device powered on

  • 2 further green flashes - device successfully connected to the gateway,

If the additional green flashes are not observed, refer to the Common Issues section.

Note: Do not proceed with installation if you have not seen the successfully connected flashes, refer to the Common Issues section.
